Santos (ASX:STO) has announced its Papua LNG joint venture has launched a fully integrated engineering and design (FEED) for the Papua LNG project in Papua New Guinea.
This project is expected to have a liquefaction capacity of up to six million tonnes of LNG per annum, with first production estimated by the end of 2027 or early 2028.
The Papua LNG project will be integrated with the existing PNG LNG project, which will provide access to up to two million tonnes of existing liquefaction capacity.
Additionally, the Papua LNG project will be using four electric LNG trains (e-trains) with a combined capacity of four million tonnes per annum.
Santos holds a 22.8% interest in the Papua LNG project and may reduce to 17.7% if the State of Papua New Guinea exercises its back-in right for up to a 22.5% interest.
