Chivo, the official cryptocurrency wallet of El Salvador, has refuted claims of a hack involving its source code and user data, dismissing the reports as "fake news."

The organisation assured users that their data remains protected, despite allegations of a breach that exposed the personal information of over 5 million Salvadorans.

While a database containing sensitive information was leaked and linked to Chivo's KYC procedures, the wallet asserts that its security has never been compromised.

Additionally, Chivo clarified that recent source code hacks did not involve personal data but were related to the theft of information from a Chivo ATM in 2023.

Despite the denial, the source of the leaked data remains unidentified.
