Polygon, a cryptocurrency company specializing in Ethereum scaling solutions, has revealed details about its forthcoming upgrade, Polygon 2.0.
This upgrade introduces a series of Polygon Improvement Proposals (PIPs) as the network transitions into a system of interconnected zero-knowledge-powered chains.
Key aspects of the upgrade include converting the native token MATIC into the POL upgrade and repositioning the POL token as the native (gas) token for the protocol's proof-of-stake (PoS) system.
The new POL tokens will become the staking token for PoS, and the upgrade will also launch a staking layer, allowing validators to secure multiple chains within the Polygon 2.0 ecosystem.
These proposals are currently open for community voting, according to Polygon Labs.
