Paraguay's Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Gimenez, unveiled the government's economic strategy, focusing on selling energy to legal Bitcoin mining operations to kickstart industrial growth.
Despite criticism, Gimenez emphasised the need to attract industries and acknowledged the controversial nature of prioritising Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) mining over other sectors.
The plan involves initially supplying energy to miners to utilise the surplus, with the eventual goal of transitioning to labor-intensive industries within three years.
This strategy aims to utilise Paraguay's energy surplus, particularly from the Itaipu dam system, while addressing issues of illegal mining activities and optimising economic potential.
