A recent study claims that owning cryptocurrency is associated with "dark tetrad" personality traits, which include narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and sadism.

The research, which surveyed 2,001 American adults, found that investors in digital currencies are more likely to be argumentative men, rely on fringe social media sources, believe in conspiracy theories, and feel victimised.

While the most significant predictor of cryptocurrency ownership was reliance on fringe social media for news, other factors like higher income and feelings of victimhood were also noted.

The study, published in the journal PLOS ONE, acknowledges the limitations of its sample size and self-reported data but suggests potential avenues for further research on the psychological and social factors driving cryptocurrency investment.
