    Orbit Bridge cyber attack propels December's crypto theft toward $100 million mark

    The Orbit Bridge cyber-attack on New Year's Eve increased the total cryptocurrency losses due to hackers, scammers, and exploiters in December to nearly $100 million.

    The December 2023 incident on the Orbit Chain's cross-chain bridge was reported as the fifth-most severe month for hacking.

    The $81.5 million exploit on Orbit Bridge was also the ninth-largest attack on a bridge of this kind in the past three years, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield.

    This figure brings the total cryptocurrency theft in December close to $100 million.
