OP Labs has initiated the trial phase of its fault-tolerant system on the Optimism Goerli network, with the objective of establishing a more decentralized Superchain following successful testing.
At present, OP Stack-based networks rely on centralized sequencers to consolidate transactions into Ethereum blockchains.
This centralized approach raises the risk of fraudulent transactions being confirmed, as users lack the capability to submit fraud proofs to halt a sequencer in the event of inaccurate data submission.
The newly introduced fault-proof system is specifically designed to enhance the decentralization of OP Stack networks.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin had previously emphasized the necessity for optimistic rollups to permit users to submit fraud proofs to thwart fraudulent withdrawals to Ethereum.
Buterin acknowledged that while certain rollups may temporarily adopt centralized attributes while developing a fraud-proof system, the ultimate goal should be decentralization.
