New South Wales approved its first wind farm in two and a half years, ending a drought in project approvals.
The Yanco Delta wind farm, a 1500MW project developed by Belgian company Virya Energy, will be located near Jerilderie in one of the state's renewable energy zones.
Comprising 208 wind turbines with a maximum height of 270m and an 800MW battery, the project is expected to power 700,000 homes.
The approval aligns with the national push for urgent investment in renewable energy, addressing the impending retirement of coal-fired power stations.
NSW Energy Minister Penny Sharpe anticipates increased collaboration and construction in renewable energy projects in 2024, following a "whole of government" approach to the state's energy crisis.
