National Australia Bank is set to close up to 36 branches across multiple states, including New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Victoria, and Western Australia.
The closures are attributed to the increasing customer preference for online banking, with the bank noting a decline in branch usage for transactions.
Affected branches, such as those in Balmain, Broadway, Innaloo, and Bribie Island, will provide customers with alternative options, including nearby branches and Bank@Post services at post offices.
The decision follows NAB's 8.8% rise in cash profits over the past year, reflecting a strategic response to changing customer behaviour.
