Department store Myer has announced its best sales on record for the five months ending December 31 last year, up almost 25% on the prior corresponding period, as shoppers got excited about being able to go out again.

Its online sales were also up, almost 40% on the corresponding nine months in the first half of 2021.

Myer says it expects its Net Profit After Tax in the first half of 2023 to be between $61M and $66M, up between 89% and 104% over the same time last year.

The company’s CEO John King says like most retailers, it remains cautious about the rest of the year, but are equally confident in the continuing momentum.

Last week fellow department store David Jones announced sales jumped more than 31 per cent in the 26 weeks ended December 25.
