Harmony Gold Mining reports fatality at Moab Khotsong mine

Harmony Gold Mining Company L(NYSE:HMY) has confirmed a fatal incident at its Moab Khotsong mine, situated near Orkney in the North West province.

The accident, attributed to a fall of ground, occurred on November 28, 2024, resulting in the loss of life.

“We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the employee's family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. Our commitment to our safety strategy through our proactive safety culture remains our priority,” said Peter Steenkamp, Chief Executive Officer of Harmony.

The incident has prompted an immediate closure of the affected area, and authorities have been notified.

Family members of the victim have been informed, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the accident.
