Alcoa Corporation (ASX:AAI) has appointed Thomas J. Gorman as non-executive chairman of its board of directors, effective immediately.

Gorman, who has served as an independent director since May 2021, succeeds Steven W. Williams, who stepped down after more than eight years on the board, including service as Chairman since January 2021.

President and CEO William Oplinger thanked Williams for his leadership and contributions, noting his role in guiding Alcoa since its launch as a public company in 2016.

Oplinger also welcomed Gorman's new role, citing his extensive global business experience, including executive positions at Brambles and Ford Motor.

Prior to his appointment as Chairman, Gorman chaired the People and Compensation Committee and served on the Governance and Nominating Committee.

Gorman said he is honoured by the appointment and looks forward to working with the board and executive team to strengthen Alcoa’s position as a leading upstream aluminum producer.

At the time of reporting, Alcoa's share price was $39.92.
