Memecoins have outshone both Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and other altcoins with their stellar performance in the cryptocurrency market, as highlighted by CoinGecko data.

The memecoin sector has been identified as the most lucrative so far this year, boasting an impressive average return of 1,312.6% across the top tokens by market capitalisation, based on a recent report from CoinGecko.

Among these, memecoins launched in March, such as Book of Meme (CRYTO:BOME), Brett (CRYPTO:BRETT), and Cat in a Dogs World (CRYPTO:MEW), quickly ascended to the top 10 largest memecoins by market value by the quarter's end.

BRETT achieved the most remarkable growth, with returns soaring up to 7,727.6% by the end of the third quarter of 2024.

Close behind was Dogwifhat (CRYPTO:WIF), which experienced a 2,721.2% increase in its value year-to-date following its popularisation during the Solana-based memecoin craze.
