The European Commission has formally requested information from YouTube, Snapchat (NYSE:SNAP), and TikTok concerning the algorithms they use to recommend content to users.

The request, announced on Wednesday, seeks to understand how these algorithms may amplify systemic risks related to the electoral process, mental health, and the protection of minors.

In an official statement, the Commission emphasized the importance of transparency in content recommendation systems.

The tech companies have been given until November 15 to provide the requested information.

This initiative is part of the EU's broader effort to regulate digital platforms and safeguard users from content that could negatively impact society.
