Congresswoman Maxine Waters, from the United States is seeking clarification on Meta's intentions for its five crypto-related trademark applications filed with the USPTO.

The demand emerges from the House Financial Services Committee, which is exerting pressure on Meta to disclose any crypto-related plans it may be harboring, in light of five ongoing trademark applications associated with cryptocurrency and blockchain from 2022.

Maxine Waters, the committee's ranking member, expressed in a letter addressed to Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg and COO Javier Olivan on January 22, that these registrations seem to demonstrate the company's ongoing commitment to expanding into the digital assets ecosystem.

Despite Meta's indications to the Democratic Financial Services Committee staff on October 12, 2023, that it wasn't actively involved in digital assets projects, Waters argues that the applications clearly show Meta's engagement in digital assets.
