Several Web3 protocols and crypto websites, including Cointelegraph, have fallen victim to a large-scale email hacking campaign.

Scammers initiated a phishing scheme on January 23 that targeted multiple Web3 protocol users.

Over $580,000 in cryptocurrency has been lost so far due to this attack, with the perpetrators utilizing the official email addresses of WalletConnect, TokenTerminal, Social.Fi, De.Fi, and also Cointelegraph.

At 10:03 am UTC, WalletConnect announced its users were receiving suspicious emails.

These fraudulent messages seemed to be sent from a WalletConnect email address and directed unknowing users to claim an airdrop through a link.

WalletConnect has since announced that the message was not sent from them or any of their affiliates, and the provided link redirect victims to a malicious website.
