Lugano, a Swiss city near the Italian border, has announced that taxpayers can now use Bitcoin or Tether stablecoin to pay taxes, fines, and other municipal bills.
This initiative is part of Lugano's Plan B, aimed at revolutionising the city's financial infrastructure through the adoption of cryptocurrencies.
Residents can pay their municipal bills by scanning a QR code and using their preferred mobile crypto wallet.
The municipality of Lugano joins other Swiss regions like the city and canton of Zug and the town of Zermatt in accepting cryptocurrency for government payments.
The trend of adopting Bitcoin for state services is also observed in Liechtenstein and the canton of Zug, known as Switzerland's 'crypto valley'.
