Phishing scammers targeted notable figures like a16z's Packy McCormick and Coinbase's Scott Shapiro on X, using their accounts to disseminate harmful crypto phishing links.

The scam involved the misuse of IFTTT (If This Then That), an auto-posting third-party service, to flood X with scam posts.

These posts urged potential victims to send Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) to a wallet address linked to a non-existent meme token dubbed “$PACKY.”

On March 21, the X accounts of several crypto influencers, including McCormick, Shapiro, and Twitch co-founder Justin Kan, were hijacked by scammers spreading the fake token.

McCormick alerted his followers about the hack, advising against clicking any suspicious links from him or sending money to unknown addresses.
