Decentralised social media platform Friend.tech has announced a partnership with Conduit to create its blockchain, Friendchain, leaving users questioning the necessity of such a move.

The decision raised concerns among crypto enthusiasts regarding the value proposition of a social-focused chain and whether it would lead to higher gas fees compared to the existing Base network.

Despite the confusion, Friend's price experienced a sharp spike following the announcement, jumping 64% within 20 minutes before quickly retracting.

This development comes just a month after the platform's major token launch and airdrop, which saw significant transaction activity but also notable sell-offs by large holders.
