EnerSys (NYSE:ENS), a leader in stored energy solutions, has been chosen for a $199 million award negotiation by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

The funding will support the development of a lithium-ion cell production facility in Greenville, SC, part of an initiative under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to bolster domestic battery manufacturing.

“We are pleased to be selected for DOE funding to support this important domestic manufacturing investment,” said  David M. Shaffer, EnerSys President & CEO.

The planned 500,000 square foot facility is expected to require a $615 million investment and could create up to 500 jobs, with commercial operations starting in 2028.

The project will enhance EnerSys' capacity to produce various form factors of lithium-ion cells for commercial, industrial, and defense applications.
