Silica sands developer Diatreme Resources (ASX:DRX) has moved closer to securing approval for its Northern Silica project in Queensland.

The company has lodged its Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act referral to the Australian government, and expects a decision on controlled action designation in June.

Diatreme Resources says the Project is being advanced quickly, with a detailed scoping study due in Q2, 2023, as demand continues for high-grade silica to power the solar industry.

It also says it's working in genuine partnership with the traditional owners, Hopevale Congress (12.5% project interest), to ensure the community receives the full benefits from the project's potential.
