The Australian market closed the midweek session 1.08% higher at 7284.90 points as a more than 6% surge in healthcare stocks boosted the key index.

The stocks that made headlines today were:

Csl rocketed 8.67% today after the biotech company released first half results including profit of 1.76 billion US dollars, and total revenue of 6 billion US dollars driven by strong growth in seasonal vaccines.

Vicinity Centres jumped 10.7% today following the release of the retail asset management company?s 2022 financial year interim results including occupancy maintained at 98.2% and a 1 billion dollar growth in statutory net profit after tax.

And Fortescue Metals Group also released first half results today but investors didn?t respond as favourably, selling out of FMG shares after the iron ore giant reported total revenue fell 13% from the prior corresponding period, and underlying net profit after tax and earnings per share each tumbled 32%.
