US military supports Bitcoin strategic reserve plan

US Senator Cynthia Lummis revealed that some US military leaders back the creation of a national Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) reserve as part of strategic preparations amid economic tensions with China.
In a Bloomberg interview on June 3, Lummis said that generals stationed in Southeast Asia see value in holding a Bitcoin stockpile to complement traditional military readiness.
“All we need to do is look to the leadership of the current US military to find support for a strategic Bitcoin reserve. There are generals, especially in Southeast Asia, who believe it’s important to have a strategic Bitcoin stockpile because we’re doing an economic war with China and we have to prepare for a guns and bullets war. But we need both,” she stated.
The comments come amid ongoing US-China tensions, including trade disputes initiated during the Trump administration.
Trump has advocated for the US to become the “world capital of crypto,” warning that if the US does not lead, China likely will.
China has banned most crypto activities since 2021 but continues to develop blockchain projects such as its digital yuan.
At Bitcoin 2025 on May 28, US Vice President JD Vance stressed the geopolitical importance of Bitcoin, urging the US to maintain leadership in the crypto sector to stay competitive in digital finance.
The Department of Defense did not respond to requests for comment by publication time.
According to public statements and geopolitical analyses, the idea of a Bitcoin reserve aligns with broader efforts to integrate digital assets into national security strategies.
This approach reflects concerns over economic warfare and the need for diversified assets in geopolitical competition.
Lummis’s remarks highlight growing recognition within some US military circles of Bitcoin’s potential strategic role.
The development may influence future policy discussions on cryptocurrency’s place in national defense and economic resilience.
At the time of reporting, the Bitcoin price was $105,399.
