Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov announced that over 30 countries are seeking deeper engagement with the BRICS bloc, with discussions aimed at finalising a list of potential new members by the end of the year.

This announcement was made during the International Customs Forum held in Moscow, where Ryabkov emphasised the growing interest in BRICS membership.

He stated, "Currently, over 30 countries have expressed their desire to engage more closely with BRICS, with many indicating a strong intent to become full-fledged members."

The discussions regarding membership criteria took place during the recent Kazan Summit, where Ryabkov noted that while progress has been made, further work is needed.

He confirmed that under Russia's presidency, consultations will be held to verify these nations' interest in joining, with an official announcement expected after these discussions.

The proposed expansion reflects an unprecedented growth trend within BRICS, as highlighted by Ryabkov who remarked on the significant increase in membership since January 1 this year.

"The simultaneous doubling of participants... is truly unprecedented in any international structure," he stated.

This expansion is seen as a response to the bloc's cooperative framework, which allows new members to integrate smoothly while sharing common values.

Ryabkov expressed optimism about strengthening BRICS' core values through this expansion, stating that the nations involved are motivated by mutual respect and a shared understanding that international relations should not be dictated by any single power.

He concluded by acknowledging the successful integration efforts and thanked all countries for their support during Russia's presidency.
