Coinbase has been granted registration as a Virtual Assets Service Provider in France, a designation which indicates adherence to EU and international regulations.
Circle, a stablecoin company, has also been granted conditional registration.
The licensing awards from France’s financial regulator, the Autorite des Marches Financiers, are part of an ongoing trend of French regulatory authorities sanctioning foreign cryptocurrency firms as 2023 comes to a close.
The gained license enables Coinbase to offer digital asset custody and facilitate cryptocurrency trading in France.
