Developers from portfolio tracker Bitcoin Ordinals, Ninjalerts, have embedded a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator in a satoshi, a subunit of Bitcoin.

This allows the Bitcoin network community to play classic games.

It took half a year to customise the emulator to function across all marketplaces and explorers, according to a tweet by Ninjalerts CEO Trevor Owens.

Owens stated that the aim of engraving the SNES emulator onto the blockchain was to address the growing issue of classic video game preservation.

This is important given that a report has suggested that around 90% of classic video games are critically endangered.
