China has removed the suspension on meat shipments from three major Australian abattoirs, signalling a positive development in trade relations between the two countries.

The bans, imposed in mid-2020 and early 2022 due to reported COVID-19 cases among workers, have been lifted for Teys in South Australia, Australian Lamb in Victoria, and JBS Brooklyn in New South Wales.

Trade Minister Don Farrell expressed confidence in resolving remaining trade issues, while sanctions persist on rock lobster and eight smaller abattoirs.

The move follows diplomatic efforts, with tariffs previously lifted on barley, coal, cotton, timber, and some red meat.

Agriculture Minister Murray Watt views this as a win for the Australian agricultural sector, underscoring the importance of normalizing trade with China.
