The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released data on the number of deaths, by sex, selected age groups, and cause of death classified to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
The ABS says the mortality rate remained low in 2021 (507.2 per 100,000 people) with Ischaemic heart disease the leading cause of death.
It also says suicide was the 15th leading cause of death, and that there were two deaths from Influenza which is a record low.
However, the rate for alcohol-induced deaths was the highest in 10 years.
