Cardano's (CRYPTO:ADA) upcoming Chang hard fork marks the transition into the Voltaire era, the final phase of Cardano's development roadmap, introducing community-run governance and on-chain consensus.

Named after Phil Chang, an early leader in Cardano governance, the Chang upgrade aims to enable a decentralised civilisation with millions of residents, according to Charles Hoskinson, the creator of Cardano.

With this milestone, Cardano will boast one of the most advanced blockchain governance systems, including annual budgets, a treasury, and active community participation.

Despite anticipation for the hard fork, Cardano's ADA cryptocurrency has experienced a decline in 2024, falling more than 26% since January 1st, with ADA recently dropping out of the top 10 coins by market capitalisation.
