Calix, an Australian environmental technology company, announced the formation of a joint venture between its subsidiary, Leilac and Heidelberg Materials.

The partnership is established for the construction and operation of the Leilac-2 demonstration plant at Heidelberg Materials' Ennigerloh cement plant in Germany.

The Leilac-2 project, set to commence construction in 2025 with commissioning anticipated by mid-2026, aims to demonstrate a replicable module capturing up to 100,000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide emissions from cement and lime production.

The companies will test the plant's technical and commercial viability over a three-year period before considering the transfer of ownership to Heidelberg Materials.

"The formation of a joint venture with Heidelberg Materials for the Leilac-2 plant marks another important milestone for commercialisation of the Leilac technology," said Leilac CEO Daniel Rennie.
