Australian customers purchased 632,412 new vehicles in the first half of 2024, marking an 8.7% increase from the previous year and surpassing the 2018 record.

June concluded the financial year with 119,659 vehicle sales, a slight decrease of 4.2% compared to June 2023.

Despite the monthly decline, the year-to-date sales highlight sustained demand, driven by SUVs and light commercial vehicles, which contributed 54.5% and 23.3% respectively to monthly figures.

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles also gained popularity, capturing 14.4% of the market.

Toyota led in June with 20,903 sales, followed by Ford and Mazda, while the Ford Ranger emerged as the top-selling vehicle.
