Business turnover in Australia increased in April, with a 0.1% rise in trend terms, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the 13-industry aggregate saw a 1.5% increase, the highest since September 2023.

The most notable boosts came from the professional, scientific and technical services industry, up 5.5%, followed by wholesale trade and transport, postal and warehousing.

Within the professional, scientific and technical services industry, management and related consulting services, advertising services, and scientific research services were the key drivers of the rise in turnover.

Conversely, the arts and recreation services industry experienced the largest drop in turnover for the second consecutive month, returning to a more typical level after robust growth in December 2023 and February.

Compared to April 2023, turnover increased for all 13 industries except mining, which fell 8.8%.

The industries with the highest annual rises were electricity, gas, water and waste services at 14.8%, while construction, and information media and telecommunications both stood at 9.2%.
