Australia's Education Minister Jason Clare discussed the government's new education services for overseas students amendment bill, which grants various ministerial powers, including pausing new provider registrations and courses.

Clare emphasised the economic and cultural benefits of international education. He stressed the importance of regulating the sector to ensure its sustained growth.

"It's worth $48 billion and if we set this up and regulate it the right way, it'll help to make sure we can continue to have that sector grow over the long term."
