The Aussie market has ended Thursday?s session in the green, gaining 0.43% at 6715.30. The tech sector had its best session since early November as Afterpay soared more than 9% to a near record high of $121.
Bitcoin continues to trade above US$37,500 this afternoon.
In tech news, Australian medical imaging tech company, Pro Medicus, has secured its fifth and largest ever contract in the last six months. The 7-year, $40 million deal with US healthcare group, Intermountain, will see Pro Medicus? software rolled out across 24 hospitals and 200+ clinics.
Dominating the headlines, 22 million Chinese citizens are back in strict lockdown following another surge in COVID-19 infections. There are 780 cases and an additional 556 asymptomatic cases confirmed in mainland China resulting in the government ordering a testing blitz and locking down the cities of Shijiazhuang, Xingtai and Langfang.
And the highly anticipated opening of Super Nintendo at Japan?s Universal Studios has been delayed again as a state of emergency was placed on Osaka until at least February 7th. The delay is postponed indefinitely as Japan struggles with a third wave of the coronavirus.
