    ASX closed at a fresh record; BetMakers soared 14% on landmark bill; News Corp surged on FY2021 results

    The Australian market rallied in afternoon trade to close Friday?s session up 0.36% at a fresh record high 7538.40 boosted by strong gains among tech stocks. For the week the ASX gained 1.97%.

    The tech sector was the winning sector for the session as Afterpay climbed 5.34%, EML Payments added 4.42% and Nuix closed the session 3.82% higher.

    Bitcoin is rallying this afternoon, trading 5.19% higher in the last 24-hours at US$41,094.31 at 4:30pm AEST.

    Shares in BetMakers jumped 13% today after the wagering data and tech company revealed that a landmark Bill to ?authorise fixed odds wagering on horse races through fixed odds wagering system? passed into law in New Jersey after being signed by the Governor. BetMakers is surging from the news as the company has already secured an exclusive 10-year agreement to deliver fixed odds thoroughbred horse racing into New Jersey.

    Making headlines, News Corp shares hit a 52-week high today as the company surged more than 7% after releasing FY2021 earnings. For the year, News Corp reported a revenue increase of 4% to $9.4bn, net profit of $389m compared to a $1.6bn loss in the prior corresponding period, and EPS came in at 56c/share, compared to a $2.16 loss per share in the previous year.

    Virgin Galactic has reopened ticket sales for its next passenger flight to the edge of space, with prices starting at US$450,000 per seat.
