The ASX closed down -118.40 points with the Utilities sector leading the charge.

Of the 50 largest stocks, the most movement has been from Newcrest Mining (ASX:NCM.asx) which closed 3.04% higher.

In number 2 spot is Meridian Energy (ASX:MEZ.asx) which closed the session up by 1.67%.

Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST.asx) rounds out the top 3 moving up 1.17%.

As the top 50 largest companies comprise almost 60% of the total market, any big changes to their share price may influence the overall market.

The biggest winner on the ASX today was Polymetals Resources (ASX:POL.asx) - which finished 45.95% higher.

The biggest loser by the close was Cyclone Metals (ASX:CLE.asx) - falling by 50%.
