Amazon.com will collaborate with the Australian government to establish a cloud data system for handling top-secret information.

The partnership aims to enhance Australia’s cyber capabilities and deepen security cooperation with the US Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles announced the initiative with Amazon Web Services, involving an investment of at least $2 billion over the next decade.

The new system, comprising three purpose-built facilities across Australia, will bolster Defence resilience, augment the Australian Defence Force’s operational readiness, and create up to 2,000 jobs.

Similar AWS initiatives are underway in New Zealand and the UK for hosting classified data.
