Allkem received the certificate of authorisation from the Environmental and Social Impact Review Committee.
The authorisation allows the company to develop the James Bay Lithium Project in Quebec, Canada.
The approval follows a positive recommendation by COMEX, an independent entity responsible for assessing and reviewing environmental and social impacts.
Allkem also signed an impact and benefit agreement with The Grand Council of the Crees.
The project is expected to have a lifespan of 19 years, producing 311ktpa of spodumene concentrate.
