The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has filed proceedings against retail chain The Good Guys Discount Warehouses (Australia) in the Federal Court, alleging false or misleading representations regarding store credit and 'StoreCash' promotions.

The regulator claims that between July 2019 and August 2023, The Good Guys ran 116 promotions in which consumers were promised store credit or StoreCash for qualifying purchases but needed to be adequately informed that opting into marketing communications was also required to receive the credit.

Additionally, the ACCC alleges that The Good Guys falsely represented that store credits would not expire or expire reasonably when they typically expired within seven to 10 days.

The ACCC also accuses The Good Guys of failing to provide store credits to eligible consumers within the specified timeframes or at all.
