The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has proposed extending Tyre Stewardship Australia's tyre product stewardship scheme for three years, aiming to boost tyre recycling and the use of recycled materials.

Tyre Stewardship Australia has directed over $9 million to projects and raised awareness on tyre recycling since its authorisation in 2013.

Continuing the scheme is expected to reduce tyre stockpiles, landfill dumping, and environmental risks. The ACCC highlighted the scheme's voluntary nature as a limitation, urging broader industry participation.

Interim authorisation has been granted, with submissions open until June 28 for final decision.
