Screentime on the up for kids

There’s been a rise in children from 5 to 14 years old that spend more than 20 hours a week on screen-based activities, according to new data from the 21/22 financial year released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Of children doing screen-based activities were spending 10-19 hours, but the increase in the percentage of children using screens for more than 20 hours a week has gone from 16 per cent to 24 per cent.

The stats showed nine in ten kids spend at least one hour a week on the screen, and while it’s the same as compared 2017-18, the amount of time has increased.

Creative activities have unsurprisingly dropped 4% since 2017/18, with just 59% of kids participating in a creative pursuit in 21/22.
