First AU commercial production of battery material en route
Battery Minerals producer IGO (ASX:IGO) has secured a site for its proposed Battery Material Facility, which could be the first commercial production of PCAM (precursor cathode active materials) in Australia.
The downstream nickel refinery would be built in the Kwinana-Rockingham industrial area on 30 hectares of vacant land leased from the WA government, which wants to grow the state’s future battery industry.
A Final Investment Decision is yet to be made, in conjunction with another WA-based explorer, Wyloo Metals with a Feasibility Study due mid next year.
IGO is keen to establish itself into the battery supply chain, expanding beyond just the mining of key raw minerals as the world transitions to clean energy, especially for the electrification of transport.
