Corbin Keegan, the self-proclaimed first citizen of Bitcoin City, has temporarily left El Salvador after over two years of waiting for the city's construction.

President Nayib Bukele announced the ambitious Bitcoin City project in November 2021, with plans to fund it using volcano bonds, which have yet to be issued.

Keegan, who moved from Chicago to El Salvador, lived in a self-built home near the proposed site in La Union.

Despite the initial excitement, little progress has been made, and official documents suggest the project may still be in informal planning stages.

Keegan plans to return to El Salvador in December, hopeful that construction will eventually begin.
