Initial Public Offerings (IPOs)
An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is when a private company offers shares of its stock to the public for the first time. It is a way for companies to raise capital for expansion, working capital, or to pay off debt.
For example, in 2019, ride-hailing giant Uber launched its IPO at a share price of $45 per share. The company was valued at $82.4 billion.
