Automated Teller Machine (ATM)
An Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is a computerised banking machine that allows customers to perform basic banking transactions without the need for a human teller. Common services performed by ATMs include withdrawing cash, depositing funds, and checking account balances. For example, a customer can insert their debit card into an ATM and enter their PIN code to withdraw cash from their bank account.
The first ATM was installed at a Barclays Bank branch in London in 1967. The machine was an immediate success and helped to revolutionise the way that banks and customers interacted.
