- FedEx strike action threatens deliveries with just 33 days to Christmas.
- Trade union industry strikes could be a long-drawn-out process.
- Average transport worker salary in Australia is A$89,965.
FedEx (NYSE:FDX) workers in Australia are fed up once again and have taken their third wave of strike action as their wage dispute escalates.
With just 33 days to Christmas the Transport Workers Union is standing firm with four-hour stoppages from today (November 22) to Wednesday, starting with NSW and Western Australia.
The strike action, which the trade union industry uses as a bargaining tool in pay disputes and can be prolonged, means deliveries could be unpredictable and add further delays to Christmas gifts and other merchandise being delivered on time.
Which means that Kansas City Chiefs NFL jersey, Inter Milan soccer merchandise, or PGA golf gear that was being sent ready for wrapping might take a little longer to be delivered this festive season.
At the heart of the FedEx strike action is an offer from the company to increase wages by 9.25% over three years and raise workers? superannuation to 13% per cent by 2024 if they accepted the proposal.
The TWU however claims the workers? pay remains low by industry standards.
According to Talent.com, the average salary of a transport worker in Australia is A$89,965.
Entry-level positions start at A$66,527 per year, while the most experienced workers can earn up to A$129,933 per year.
