Woodside Energy (ASX:WDS) will supply three LNG cargoes annually to major Japanese importer JERA over five years, starting in 2027, under a deal.
The shipments, totaling around 200,000 tonnes per year, will be delivered during Japan’s peak winter months from December to February, when energy demand is highest.
The gas will come from Woodside’s global projects, including the Scarborough development in Western Australia, the North West Shelf venture, Pluto LNG, and the Louisiana LNG facility in the US once it becomes operational.
The agreement finalises an initial deal signed last June between the two companies, which both hold stakes in Scarborough.
JERA, a joint venture of Tokyo Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power, said the arrangement would help ensure stable electricity supply and reduce reliance on the spot market during periods of high LNG prices.
At the time of reporting, Woodside Energy's share price was $23.93.
