NOVONIX (ASX:NVX), a global leader in battery materials and technology, provided an update on its supply timeline for Panasonic Energy, its lead battery material customer.
The company had previously projected the start of mass production for battery-grade synthetic graphite for Panasonic in 2026, alongside industrial-grade graphite for other customers.
While mass production of industrial-grade graphite remains on track for this year, NOVONIX now expects full-scale production of anode material for Panasonic to commence in the second half of 2027.
The delay reflects the stringent qualification process required for anode materials, which varies according to customer-specific specifications and testing protocols.
"The team at NOVONIX is pioneering new process technology, and Panasonic is an exceptional development partner. We continue to work closely as we advance toward our shared goal of establishing a North American synthetic graphite supply chain," said NOVONIX CEO Mike O'Kronley.
NOVONIX entered into a binding off-take agreement with Panasonic in February 2024, with commissioning of the mass production equipment completed in October 2025.
Initial plans had targeted production to begin in early 2026, following equipment commissioning in the second half of 2025.
At the time of reporting, NOVONIX's share price was $0.42.
