Kalshi has banned a former California gubernatorial contender for five years and fined him $2,000 after he wagered about $200 on his own election outcome in breach of insider trading rules.
The CFTC-regulated prediction market platform said the politician publicly posted about the bet on X and has since ceased running for governor, now seeking election to the US House of Representatives.
“Let me be clear: if you attempt to engage in manipulation, fraud, or insider trading, we will find you and take action,”
Said CFTC Chair, Mike Selig.
Kalshi’s head of enforcement, Robert DeNault, said the account did not withdraw any profits and that the case was referred to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission for review.
The description of the individual aligns with Kyle Langford, who in May 2025 shared a video of himself placing a $98.76 wager on his own candidacy, though Kalshi did not formally name the politician.
The platform also disclosed a separate enforcement action against a YouTube editor who traded roughly $4,000 on stream-related markets using what Kalshi described as statistically anomalous success, resulting in a two-year suspension and a nearly $20,000 fine.
Kalshi said it has investigated around 200 cases and strengthened surveillance through a dedicated audit committee and partnership with Solidus Labs, amid heightened regulatory scrutiny of prediction markets following high-profile insider trading concerns.
