The death toll from a landfill collapse in the central Philippines has risen to 11, authorities said, as rescue hopes fade.
The landslide occurred last week at the Binaliw landfill in Cebu City while more than 100 workers were on site.
Rescue teams have pulled 12 injured people from the debris, with more than 20 still missing.
A local fire official said it was unlikely anyone remained alive after days under tonnes of rubbish.
The incident has prompted calls for an investigation into the cause of the collapse and broader waste management reforms.
Environment authorities ordered the landfill operator, Prime Integrated Waste Solutions Inc., to suspend operations.
The company has been instructed to submit a compliance plan within 90 days, officials said.
Senator Imee Marcos called for an inquiry, saying the tragedy highlighted long-standing safety failures.
This should have never happened.
Imee Marcos said.
Preliminary findings pointed to heavy rainfall and possible engineering issues as contributing factors.
